Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is interior design?

A: Residential interior design is the art and science of creating beautiful, functional spaces in a client’s home.

I use a combination of creativity, technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to come up with ideas that improve quality of life in the home.

Q: Why should I hire an interior designer?

A: It saves you money by helping you to avoid costly mistakes. You get the benefits of my experience and knowledge, plus access to the products and tradespeople you need to get the best results.

Q: When should I hire an interior designer?

A: The sooner the better, particularly for new build or rebuilding projects.

For example, I can work with the builder to make sure that your choice of paint colours is included within the building cost and that electrical points and other fittings are placed exactly where you need them.

Q: What happens at the first consultation?

A: The first consultation is absolutely FREE, so don’t panic if you’re worried Interior Design might not be for you. We’ll meet at your home to have a chat about your design needs, personal style, your budget and how you use the space. I’ll measure the space and make an inventory of your current furniture.

After that, it takes around 2 weeks to deliver a detailed design, moodboard and project cost estimate.

Q: Will I have to throw out all my current furniture?

A: No. If you have certain items of furniture that make you happy, this is usually a good jumping-off point for a design plan.

We’ll work out which items you want to keep, and which you’d like to jettison – but don’t be too quick to write off old furniture if it’s of high quality. We can give it a new lease of life through reupholstering and creative customisation of soft furnishings

Q: Do you cover project management?

A: Yes, I can see the entire project through from start to finish. It's more cost-effective to ask me for project management as this avoids expensive mistakes and time-wasting delays.

I negotiate contractor fees, coordinate deliveries and work schedules, monitor deadlines and make sure that everything runs smoothly right up to the completion date. You just sit back and enjoy the end result.
